Eight boats attended the 2022 PCC’s, competing for the Don Lee Perpetual Trophy at Los Angeles Yacht Club. Hurricane Gulch showed us a variety of conditions from 5 mph from the south to 12 mph from the SW.
Day one had the cloud cover hang in and some delay. The race started with 5mph breeze from 165 degrees. John Ravizza lead at the first mark, but allowed Don Whelan to slip by. After two laps Whelan was first, Greg Dair 2nd and Ravizza 3rd. Race 2 had the course move to the right, with a little more breeze. Race two was won by Greg Dair, Ravizza 2nd, and Chris Messano 3rd.
Race 3 and 4 saw the wind move further right to 220-230, and the breeze about 12mph. Race 3 was won by Doug Baird and Nick Messano, followed by Chris Messano, and Greg Dair. Race 4 was again the double sausage, finishing downwind and this time won by Chris Messano, followed by Ravizza, and Whelan. Ben Bradley got it going fast and finished 4th.
At the end of day one, and four races, Chris Messano and Doug Mclean were tied for first with John Ravizza and John Buestad with 11 points. Tied for second was Greg Dair and Tucker, with Don Whelan and Park Densmore with 14 points. Doug Baird and Nick Messano were two points back with 16
Day Two, The breeze started at 170 degrees, but the sky was clearing and it wind moving right quickly. John Ravizza pulled away easily won Race 5, with Greg Dair 2nd, Doug Baird 3rd.
Race 6 had Chris Messano pull ahead and win the race, followed by Ravizza and Greg Dair. Race 7 was the double sausage with one more windward leg, finishing upwind. Messano won race 7, with George Hershman finishing 2nd, and John Ravizza 3rd. This was George’s first regatta in his newly acquired Mercury 467, Happy Dayz, with his daughter Kristen.
John Ravizza was most consistent over the 7 race series with no throw outs, to edge Chris Messano by 2 points. See the final results attached
