Once again the Mercurys had a near prefect day of racing on the Alameda Estuary. The NORCAL series extends over 4 spring weekends with a total of 14 boats participating.
This Saturday, PRO Aaron Lee got off 5 more races to make the total of 15 completed out of the 20 race series. The wind was a steady 5 to 8 knots for most of the day with an increase to 10 to 12 knots for the final race. Randy Smith with crew Radar Felton, and David Bacci with daughter Natasha Bacci crewing were racing even through the first three races, each having a first, a second, and a third. John Ravizza with son Mike Ravizza crewing broke through with wins in the third and four race to score first place for the day. He took home the EYC daily first glass presented by the club Commodore, Kevin Clark. Jim Bradley with crew Brendan Bradley took the win in the last race. At the end of the day with a race tossed out of the scoring the totals were Ravizza and Smith tied at 12 points and Bacci and Bradley just behind at 9. Scott Jenson with crew Tony Basso came to life when the wind was up in the 5th race and had their best race of the day placing 4th. The final Saturday of the series is on the schedule for June 4th. This is a perfect venue for tuning up for the shifty winds we will find at Huntington Lake on July 23 and 24th so let’s get all 15 boats back on the race course to finish the series.
