Last weekend a lucky few got to sail in beautiful sailing weather conditions in "Hurricane Gulch" out of San Pedro. Cabrillio Beach YC hosted the regatta and were, as always welcoming.
Their race committee worked really hard to move marks and line between races. All of which shows why the Mercury fleet will be lucky to have the CBYC hosting the 2020 Nationals this coming August. From the feedback from Dave Bacci, "the course was pretty even. 12-14 knots and shifty on Saturday.
10-12 knots and maybe a bit less Sunday. Shifty. Both sides worked. Even the middle sometimes! The racing was close enough that multiple boats were overlapped at finish.
Dave West and Chris Krugar, doing well during most of the racing, almost clinched the regatta, but had to go back and retrieve a misbehaving whisker pole. The Cal 20's shared the course meaning it was a be ready for anything goes day.
